CWC PERFUME LAYERING

CWC Eau de Parfum layering

What is perfume layering?

Perfume layering is the practice of wearing two or more fragrances together, allowing their individual characters to create a new composition on the skin. The perfumes are not mixed in a bottle; each is applied separately.

Part of the fascination lies in the way fragrances develop over time. Some notes are apparent from the first spray, while others emerge more gradually. When perfumes are worn together, familiar notes can take on unexpected nuances.

Which perfumes work well together?

There are few fixed rules, although not every pairing will be equally successful.

Contrasting fragrances can work particularly well. Fresh, green or citrus notes may lend a lighter touch to a warmer composition, while woody or spicy notes can bring depth to something more delicate.

Fragrances with similar underlying notes can also complement one another. Much depends on the perfumes themselves, how they develop on the skin and, of course, personal taste.

How do you layer perfume?

For a first attempt, choose two perfumes whose individual characters you already know.

A useful starting point is to apply the richer or more intense fragrance first, followed a few seconds later by the lighter one. This is a suggestion rather than a rule. Reversing the order, or wearing the fragrances on different areas of skin, may produce quite a different impression.

Begin with a light application. Too much of either perfume can overwhelm the other, leaving little room for their individual notes to develop.

It is also worth allowing the combination some time. As the opening notes fade and the heart and base notes become more apparent, a pairing can change considerably from its first impression.

Perfume layering with GREEN STAG and GREYFLAME

Our two CWC Eau de Parfums could hardly be more different in character.

GREEN STAG is bright, green and invigorating, while GREYFLAME unfolds with warmth, richness and depth.

It is precisely this contrast that makes wearing them together worth exploring.

We recommend applying GREYFLAME first, then adding a little GREEN STAG after a few seconds.

The fresh, citrus character of GREEN STAG offers an appealing counterpoint to the warmth of GREYFLAME. A little more GREEN STAG gives the combination a fresher character; for greater warmth and intensity, let GREYFLAME take the lead.

Different proportions and a change of order can reveal further possibilities. Which combination appeals most is best discovered on your own skin.
